Sharing border with Mayanmar in East, Assam in western and northern side, Arunachal pradesh in North East and Manipur in the South Nagaland is India’s smallest state comprising an intriguing world of ancient rituals and proud people. The homeland of the Nagas formally inaugurated as the state of Nagaland in 1963, the 16th state of India.

90% population are from deep jungles and only 10% are living in the cities. The states vast expanses of paddy fields fade by an elaborate indigenous irrigation system, are a feast for the eyes. Nagalad has considerable rainfall during the monsoons that run from June to September.

Nagas have evolved into a genetic term for many tribal communities in the north-east, of the 32 such tribes, 16 major and numerous subtribes spread over Nagalands eleven districts. Primary amongst them are Angami, Sumi, Konyak, Lotha, Ao, Chakhesang, Phom, Sangtam, Cheng, Yimchenger, Khiamniungan, Zeliang, Pochury each with their own culture and lifestyle. Naga society is a well-knit and cohesive unit living by ancient tenets they play an important role in contemporary life. Nagaland aptly called the “Land of Festivals”, since it’s people enjoy celebrating life in all its different aspects, each month is marked by a festival organised by the various tribes.
