Overview
Situated at Darjeeling district of West Bengal, this area is a combination of Eastern Himalayan residents, breeder, and migratory birds ground. The Senchal Forest area is a pristine forest with rich flora and fauna, including huge numbers of birds. The habitat suits some rare Himalayan avifauna with some altitudinal migrants. This area is a home of some rare / uncommon birds like Satyr Tragopan, Hill Partridge, Great Parrotbill, Fulvous Parrotbill, Brown Parrotbill, Himalayan Shortwing, Lesser Shortwing, Slender-billed Scimitar Babbler, White-browed Scimitar Babbler, Rufous-throated Wren Babbler, Scaly-breasted Wren Babbler, Spotted Elachura, Darjeeling Woodpecker, various Laughingthrushes, Sunbirds, and many. Lower Mahananda is practically a hotspot area for birders specifically during monsoon for Black Baza, Great Hornbill, Asian Emerald Cuckoo, Violet Cuckoo, Banded Bay Cuckoo, Himalayan Cuckoo, Pale-headed Woodpecker, Long-tailed Broadbill, Mountain Imperial Pigeon, Pin-tailed Pigeon, various Flycatchers, Ruby-cheeked Sunbird and many. August to April is the best time for birding to this hotspot.

Important Notes
The area is full of birding activity, so one must alert on every moment. In summer and monsoon, there is a high chance of rainfall in complete hills, so one must take all precautionary measurements to save himself / herself and his / her electronic gadgets. You have to be patience on field and follow your guide.
